I Automated My Business WhatsApp in 7 Days for Under Rs 10,000 — Here's Exactly What We Built

I want to share exactly what we built, what it cost, and whether it actually worked — because when I was looking for this information 6 months ago, I couldn't find a single honest account.

No corporate blog post. No sales pitch. Just what happened.

The Problem We Were Trying to Solve

We were getting 80-120 WhatsApp messages a day for our real estate business in Ahmedabad. Inquiries from property ads, from word of mouth, from Instagram. Each one asking the same 5-6 questions: "What's the price per sqft?", "Is it ready possession?", "What's the location exactly?", "Can I visit this weekend?".

My assistant was spending 3-4 hours a day copy-pasting the same replies. On weekends and evenings? Nobody replied. Leads went cold.

We needed a WhatsApp AI. I started researching.

What I Found When Researching

Most options fell into two buckets:

Bucket 1: SaaS tools (Wati, AiSensy, Interakt) These give you rule-based chat flows. They're not actually AI — they're decision trees. You set up "if user types X, reply with Y." The moment a lead asks something slightly different from your script, the bot breaks.

Also: monthly subscriptions of Rs 2,500 to Rs 8,000 indefinitely. And you don't own anything.

Bucket 2: Custom AI agencies I talked to 4 agencies. Three of them wanted Rs 50,000-1,50,000 upfront, 6-8 week timelines, and monthly retainers. Way too expensive for what I needed.

The fourth was Zynteq, based in Surat/Ahmedabad. They quoted Rs 8,000 one-time for a custom WhatsApp AI. I was skeptical. That seemed too low.

What Zynteq Actually Built

Here's the technical breakdown of what they deployed in 7 days:

Tech stack:

  • WhatsApp Business API (Meta's official API, not a grey-market workaround)
  • GPT-4o as the AI model
  • n8n as the workflow engine
  • Supabase as the database (stores leads and conversation history)
  • Custom system prompt trained on our property details, pricing, and FAQ

What the AI does:

  1. Receives any WhatsApp message from a lead
  2. Understands what they're asking (even in Hinglish — "bhai flat ka price kya hai?")
  3. Replies intelligently using our property information
  4. If the lead shows high intent (asking about booking, visiting), it captures their name + phone + preferred time and adds them to our Supabase lead table
  5. If the AI doesn't know the answer (unusual question), it tells the lead "our team will call you shortly" and pings me on WhatsApp

What it does NOT do:

  • It doesn't pretend to be human. When asked, it says it's an AI assistant.
  • It doesn't answer questions outside its training data — no hallucinations.

The Numbers After 30 Days

I tracked everything:

MetricBeforeAfter
Daily WhatsApp messages handled80-120 (manually)80-120 (automated)
Average response time45 minutes (during work hours)8 seconds (24/7)
After-hours responses0100%
Time spent by assistant on WhatsApp3-4 hours/day15 minutes/day (reviews only)
Leads qualified per week12-1528-32
Visits booked4-6/week11-14/week

The biggest surprise: weekend leads went up 3x. Before, nobody replied on Saturday/Sunday. Now the AI handles everything.

What It Actually Cost

  • Zynteq build fee: Rs 8,000 (one-time)
  • WhatsApp Business API: Rs 0-500/month (Meta charges per conversation — we're at ~Rs 200/month)
  • OpenAI API costs: ~Rs 800-1,200/month (depends on volume)
  • Supabase hosting: Rs 0 (free tier handles our volume)
  • n8n (self-hosted on a VPS): Rs 500/month

Total ongoing costs: Rs 1,500-2,000/month

Compare this to: hiring an additional assistant at Rs 15,000-20,000/month. Or a SaaS chatbot at Rs 5,000+/month that doesn't actually use AI.

What I Wish I Had Known Before

1. The WhatsApp Business API approval takes 2-3 days. Zynteq handled this, but it's the step most people don't account for. Not everything is instant.

2. The system prompt matters more than the AI model. The quality of replies depends more on how well you describe your business than on whether you use GPT-4 vs GPT-3.5. We spent 2 days refining the prompt before launch.

3. Edge cases will happen. In the first week, some leads asked about properties we don't have. The AI would sometimes make something up. We fixed this by being more explicit in the prompt: "Do NOT answer questions about property types not in this list."

4. Leads are faster to warm now. The AI captures intent signals I wasn't tracking before. I now know which leads asked about price 3 times (high intent), which ones asked only basic questions (early stage). This changed how my sales team prioritizes follow-ups.

Would I Do It Again?

Yes, without question. The Rs 8,000 paid for itself in the first 10 days — one additional visit booking paid for the entire thing.

If you're running a business in India that gets 30+ WhatsApp inquiries a day and you're either ignoring them, replying late, or spending 2+ hours on repetitive replies — a custom WhatsApp AI is the single highest-ROI thing you can do right now.
